All countries that have an embassy in Vietnam have them located in Hanoi. However, Ho Chi Minh City is the biggest city and where much of the business and tourism happens. It therefore makes sense for all of the major players to have consulates in HCMC as well. I’ve actually put up a separate page for the Australian, UK, and US Consulates and and below you can find find a comprehensive list of the others here in HCMC.
Be aware that Consulates provide varying degrees of service. Many will only assist their own nationals or Vietnamese residents requiring consular services. Others wil provide assistance eg. visas, to people from other countires.
If you need asssistance from your home country in any way, shape or form, your Consulate is likely to be your best option in HCMC. If your passport is stolen, there is a disaster or emergency situation here in HCMC or you are badly injured or die, it is likely your Consulate will be of assistance.
I have verified this information as of June 2014. There is a lot of incorrect information on the internet. Two that come to mind are the Australian Consulate (Google+ still shows the wrong address) and the Chinese Embassy that moved a couple of years back. Many sites haven’t updated the address yet and you have to really dig to find sites with the correct inormation.
If the consulate has a website I have linked the Country Name to the most relevant page I could find. Sometimes that is the home page, others it’s a link to the contact details page. Where I couldn’t find an official Consulate link I either, haven’t added the information or, I’ve sent an email to try and confirm the details. If I don’t get an answer soon I’ll either confirm in person OR delete that country’s entry.
If there is an email address I have added it. Don’t however depend on getting an answer from an email enquiry. In my experience emails are rarely address by many of these countries.
I will try and ensure the details are up to date on a regular basis. If you notice something that requires an update then please leave a comment below.
