Accommodation

The choice of accommodation in Ho Chi Minh City is vast. It’s a truly international destination with everything from rock bottom budget digs through to 5 Stars plus. Prices, compared to those in Europe, Australia, and the USA are exceptional value. For less much less than $20 USD/night you can have a clean, well-equipped room with private bathroom. $100/night will push you well and truly into the luxury category. All the main booking engines such as Expedia.comAgoda.com, Hotels.com, Booking.com, and Hostelworld.com have a presence here. In my experience, prices do vary between different companies on any one day so make sure you compare. Airbnb is also making a big push into Vietnam with some amazing properties. (Check out Christina’s, my favorite Airbnb property in Saigon, here.)

Christina's Saigon - Room

Christina’s is an awesome option when visiting Saigon

Most budget tourists in Ho Chi Minh City head for the are just West of Ben Thanh Market, bordered by Pham Ngu Lao and Bui Vien Streets. Ask any taxi driver to take you to Fam Moo Low (as in ow pronounced as in cow or ow, I just hit my thumb with a hammer). There are hundreds of guesthouses and hotels in those two main streets themselves and in the tiny laneways that run between.

More upmarket tourists will stay closer to the center of District 1 located to the East of Ben Thanh Market where the three, four and five-star hotels dominate, although there are some cheaper options to be had. District 3, closer to the airport quite a few upmarket hotels as well.

Very useful information about Sai Gon’s accomodation. Plenty of choices. I and my wife planed to travel to Vietnam this year but because of the Coronavirus so we had to postpone our trip. We hope it will be gone soon so we could flight to Sai Gon and explore the Mekong Delta.
