Hi there from Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) Vietnam.
My name’s Sharyn and I’ve started this website to share my insights into what I think is one of the world’s most vibrant cities.
I’m an Aussie who has retired from the daily 9 to 5 grind to travel the world and experience all that it has to offer. My partner Tim and I have been to over 100 countries and have spent over 8 years on the road in total. This is the third time we’ve been to Vietnam and the second time we’ve lived in HCMC. Living in a city gives you a unique insight into everything on offer and we’re determined to explore the whole spectrum of experiences on offer. And this time round I’ve decided to let the world in on the highlights of this amazing city through this new website.
Ho Chi Minh Highlights aims to provide information that will help you make the most of your time here. You might just be passing through as a part of a longer journey or you may decide to stop and spend a while. Whatever your reason for visiting I hope you find the information here informative and helpful. I want you all to know the best value accommodation, tours, food and cultural experiences that I’ve found in my time here. That list is growing fast but the choice is vast. I’m not sure I’ll ever experience them all but I’ll give it a damn good try.
And, of course, I’m ready and waiting to follow up on any of YOUR recommendations and suggestions for places to stay, eat and experience. Please leave me a comment in the section below and ask a question or give me recommendations on place you think I should feature on the site.
Hope you enjoy
Sharyn
Good morning Sharyn, your website is very helpful and amazing. Today i just found an Aussie Shop in HCM city that have lots of Aussie products and chocolate so i would like to share with you and Australian community.
Shop: Aust Shop Chocolate. Address :1/37 Cong Truong Tu Do, Ward 19, Binh Thanh Dist. They are in google map as well, very easy to find.
Thanks for that. Good find!
Hi Sharyn,
Just writing a blog post about my experience in HCMC, and I’ve linked through to your walking guide which helped me get my way round the city – thanks so much for the excellent and informative blog!
Thanks Claire, glad it helped out and you had a great experience.
Hi,
I am planning to visit HCMC during Tet / the lunar new year and was wondering if you could advise if there will still be places to visits and shops open for shopping and eating?
Thank you!!!
Hi Andrina, sorry for the late reply. I’ve been on holidays with minimal internet access. Don’t count on anything open on New Years Day. There will be some shops open the day after and more the day after that. Etc. There is no way to know for each individual shop unless they post their hours ahead of time. The whole city gets very quiet and even in the busiest areas some shops will close for the holiday period.
Dear Sharyn,
I stumbled over your website yesterday and just came back from a lovely lunch at Com Nha – thanks so much for this recommendation!
You are welcome. So glad you enjoyed it. It’s quite different food to the normal fare but very delicious
Hello Sharyn, it was lovely meeting you last Wednesday. Also thank you for the local information you passed on. I hope all goes well with the tours.
It was fabulous to meet you too Moira. I will send you some more information on suggested itinerary’s and hope to have the Cho lon self guided tour up very soon. Have a great holiday.
Nice, warm and friendly! I would certainly be asking you for you recommendations were I to be due to visit HCMC soon!
Thanks so much. Appreciate that you took the time.
Really nice start. I wish you all the very best. Keep adding more and more content.
Thankyou so much. Just doing all the compilation for the other pages. Ho Chi Minh City never stops changing so I need to make sure everything is up to date. Definitely plenty to write about.
Starting on that process today ..again.
